You know how ur gameshark is supposed to be able to enter codes in and cheat in ur game right? How come the gameshark I ordered from some part of the U.S. is a bit different: the only three options it has when u start it up are:
1. Start game with or without codes on
2. Codes of various games already entered in (if ur game isn't in there then tough luck)
3. An option to turn off the music or keep it on? o.o
Like, where's the "enter codes" option??!?! I've looked on videos and other GBC gamesharks have different startup menu designs than mine.
Like I wouldn't say I've been scammed, but this gameshark is WEIRD.
Physically the plastic around it is clear and it "says" on its tag Gameshark 4.0
Graphically, there is a yellow pokeball design behind it, a blue GameShark title on the top, and a black screen saying the game's title on the bottom. Not even that, my game is one of the 230 games with pre-entered codes in the list, but the cheat codes don't work. What is this gameshark and what's up with it?|||I have no idea, but try a VBA :)

My class has been given the task of creating out own restaurant. We have to create a menu, design interior/exterior, create a theme etc. The theme I have chosen is French, except I'm completely stuck on what I should call it. I was thinking "Little Snail" that I was really happy with, and when I told my teacher of this idea she laughed and said that last year she went to a French restaurant that was in fact called "The Little Snail" and advised me to think of another name.
Anyway so if anyone could help me think of a good, creative French restaurant name it would be delightfully helpful :)

The best way of finding culinary employment is to visit major restaurants, hotels along a restaurant row or along major hotel thoroughfares in order to meet the food manager and hand out your resumes accordingly. This personal touch often will bring out an instant invitation to work at these establishments because of your extensive 20 years of practical culinary experience.

Good luck!|||With all due respect your resume seems to indicate you have had too many jobs which may lead employers to think you are really not that good since you change jobs frequently.|||The hotel and restaurant industry has been hit very hard by the recession. Jobs that a few years ago would have gotten 15 or 20 responses are now getting over 1000. Your skill level could actually be a detriment. • Been using a Canon G3 and G6 for awhile, and want something that 1) responds much faster (especially in autofocus and shutter lag), 2) exhibits less noise at higher ISO, and 3) allows for making larger prints.

Lens-interchangability is not necessarily the main thing I'm looking for, but it pretty much looks like you MUST look to an interchangeable-lens camera in order to get major improvements in all three things mentioned above.

So I'm looking at DSLR's that are one or two steps above entry-level, hopefully not too exceed around $1000 (body only). [Willing to buy a gently used example that has been well cared for.]

    - I have no lens collection or lens investment to consider.
    - Won't be buying a lot of specialized lenses, just a few basic ones over the next few years. (Mainly a macro, a couple wide-angle lenses, a portrait lens)
    - I don't care about the video capability of the camera.
    - Slight differences (one or so stops) in low light/hi-ISO performance are not important to me.
    - Slight differences in megapixels are not important to me -- 8 to 12 should be OK)

I'd prefer a camera that, in terms of features and specs, can "cover many bases" (so that I can experiment with different photographic arenas), maybe not the best in any single area.

    Priorities are:

    1) excellent autofocus performance over a broad range of shooting conditions -- want the most effective, accurate, consistent performance that is realistically possible at this price point

    2) reliability and durability (especially in the electronics) -- don't want the experience of breakdown around the time the warranty is expiring

    3) overall build quality -- don't mind a little extra weight if it has gone into building a strong, solid, tight camera

    4) good ergonomics and menu design

    5) I don't plan on shooting much in challenging environments, but resistance to dust and the elements is good

    6) friendly, helpful, accessible customer service would be a plus

    Thanks for your suggestions!

I am a freelance graphic designer and recently my client has left his previous contract design and would like me to take over his design briefs.

I received a brief today to simply change wording within his poster and menu designs, so naturally I asked for the working files, including the indd, ai, eps, psd etc.

The former design, however, refuses to release the files and replied that they could "lose work" if they do that. In turn, they requested a payment of $200 to provide the working files.

If I don't get the working files I will have to charge my client heaps to start over, which means I may lose the brief.

Can they do that? I would assume when my friend purchased the service from him he is entitled to receive the working files - just like handover from different contract builders the new builder is entitled to receive the previous blueprints.

They have not committed to a legally signed contract, nor does any receipts and invoices, contain clauses that prevents my client from getting the working files.

I would greatly appreciate any legal points and ideas you can advise me on this matter.

Thanks very much :)|||I think it is fair due to copyright issues, and the paranoia of ideas being stolen.

Like on photoshop if they need to create a menu design or anything?|||Sometimes. The fact is, that in graphic design, time really does equal money, and anything a designer can do to save time is sometimes the right solution. With these, the trick is to find a suitible template for the business. A template that looks right for a tea house will not work well for a biker bar. A template that suits a seafood restaurant may work against the theme and mood of a Southwestern steak house.

But, the problem with generic templates is that they LOOK ... generic. A sophisticated client will realize that customers who look at generic looking documentation, will expect generic goods and services. In many cases, it is no big deal. But for big bucks, it is a BIG deal.

I can command my highest paying commissions by creating unique, original designs, even on some of the simplest documents. A menu, for example can easily have a place for the restaurant name, a section for appeetizers, one for entrees, another for deserts and another for beverages. But a customer who expects a unique and pleasurable dining experience gets his first "hints" by the ambience of the restaurant, the sophistication and attenetiveness of the staff, the table appointments and, of course, the menu.

Even after everything else "spells" fine dining, a plain, generic menu CAN be a let down and put the customer on the defensive, expecting more disappointment after that. Of course, this isn't always the case, but, if YOU were a restaurant owner, wouldn't you want EVERYTHING possible you can do to lead the customer to a pleasant and recommendable experience?

Whether a small, simple menu or a large and expansive one, an original layout, customized directly for the restaurant's "personality," is not that much harder to produce than it would be if done from a template. Software apps, such as InDesign or QuarkXPress, make easy work of the job, even without existing templates.

But, here's the trick to creating ANYTHING unique and original: First comes the creativity of the designer. Without that, the "designer" is doomed to be "generic" the rest of his career. The other thing is in the skill and knowlege of how to use the designer's tools, whether it is in drawing implements or computer software.

In the design business, originality is what sells.

it consist of either Option #1: Movie Theme
Design an object or objects in the style of a specific movie. (This process will be much like the idea of a themed restaurant.) Movies have a distinctive style and context. Choose a movie and consider the subject and content of the movie, the characters, the setting. Then analyze and define its style. You will be designing an original object that would “fit in” this movie. Make sure you are designing something completely original and not simply recreating something already in the movie. The object(s) will depend on the type of movie but possible solutions are: costumes, tableware, furniture, decorations, menu design, logos, signage, room design. This is not a comprehensive list; options are limitless. Just make sure that your design skills would be evident through your idea.
    or
    Option #2: Emotion Theme
Design a visual interpretation for the 6 basic human emotions: Happiness, Sadness, Fear, Surprise, Disgust, and Anger.
Design six compositions, each will characterize an emotion using the principles of design.
Consider each emotion. What are its defining elements? How is it expressed? What causes this emotion? What places, times, situations might be more likely to trigger these feelings? How have these emotions been expressed in music, literature, theater, and art? How did the audience clearly understand and relate to the feeling? What colors, shapes, textures, and values do you associate with each feeling? Analyze the abstract meaning of each feeling and design an illustration or object that clearly expresses each emotion.

I don't know how to go about it help me please.|||For an option #1 example, let's take the Harry Potter series. Remember how some of the candles illuminating some scenes are made into the shape of human spines? And how some of the bookends and knick knacks are skulls and some bones laying about?

If using this theme, for your project you can design another piece of furnishing or appliance. What would a Harry Potter movie camera look like? What would a sorcerer's dresser look like?

For option #2, emotions, what immediately comes to mind is how the old Ren & Stimpy cartoons depicted madness in Ren's uncontorllable rage. The colors and textures could be positively frightening and were spot on in how they worked.|||For the 1st one I'd say "Grease." Lotsa colors, pretty actors, etc.
For the 2nd one I'd say "Happiness" with lots of colors and pretty things.
For Sadness, that'd be an interesting and different one. Use something like depressing poetry and emo stuff and cutting of wrists. Idk, actually, that might be a little inappropriate.lol.

    Thanx alot in advance

5starts to the best answer|||1. Go to the library and get out books on Indian culture, food, clothes and architecture that will influence your style & colours.
    2. Depending on the level of quality you will need software like Photoshop for editing your images and Adobe indesign to layout your pages correctly.
    3. You will require some skill at laying out pages with consistency, that includes knowing how to typeset, understanding correct typography so that your menu looks clear and appropriate for an indian restaurant. Knowledge of CMYK colours wil help.
    4. You may need stock images in high resolution of food & places so that your document looks sharp, or if you have a scanner you might borrow some images (be aware of copyright)
    5. Figure out what you will be printing your menu on, this is an important factor as it will determine your choices eg cardboard, gloss, bi folding menus, etc.

What would attract you to pick up a pizza menu Eg shape, colours, layout, size etc.

Im creating a pizza menu for a client and she juts says she wants a menu that will make people read it an think its amazing (vague I know) thats what im having to work with.

    so any ideas?

thanks|||Design the front to resemble the metallic texture of a pizza oven door, including the dark, smokey stain on the top part, and a feature where it opens DOWN instead of from the right to the left like a book.

That's all I'm going to give you for free.|||Most of the hundreds of pizza menu's that come through my door are horribly bright with unappealing photos of pizzas spread over the front. Strangely, four menus from different places across the city use the same pizza picture!
The menu's I tend to look in and keep, rather than just chucking, are the 'classy' looking ones. My favourite is actually a Indian menu, it's white with purple colour blocks for headings. It looks modern. It's simple, clean layout means it's easy to read.
I'd go for something similar. People don't want too many gimmicks in a menu, they want something usable that looks professional and gives a clean and good quality impression.|||Come up with a really cool layout and design based on the overall look and feel of the pizza place. You could experiment with different folded types of menus like tri-fold, half fold, z-fold, and the like. Or you could do booklet type menus. Customize the size, don't go for standard ones, so your menu stands out. You can choose from going full color printing or not. There are lots of options available. Just be sure that it fits the theme of the restaurant, is readable, and very thorough. You could include descriptions or write-ups of the different items on the menu, give the users an idea about the food item.
Check out Uprinting.com for affordable and high quality menu printing services. Hope this helps :)|||Well for one if your going to oder something you have to look at the menu, but anyway a menu is a menu, but the question becomes what can i do to make this not just a menu, so depending on good the pizza you could go with a picture, but a big key, Color and Text, please don't design it with poor text, make it very commercial|||Hellooooo There : )

I have to design an actual menu for a food & beverage class I am taking at my University. I need to find somewhere that sells menu holders. I have looked around the internet, but cant seem to find anybody that can sell me just one. They all want to sell in large quantities. I also have looked around the city for stores that specialize in Restaurant items, but cant seem to find any. So, does anybody know a retail store in Las Vegas that might sell menu holders or a website that could sell me just 1??? THANK YOU!
(p.s.: When I say "menu" holders, I mean the plastic "folders" that hold the menu. Like, when you go into a restaurant and they hand you a menu, its the actual menu minus the inside papers with the food items on it. )|||Well if you want to spend the money on just one, these are prettttty

Put pictures!|||My guess would be yes, though I have nothing to back it up other than that I often order items with pictures simply because I like to know what I'm getting. So, my advice is to put pictures for the most expensive items, in addition to dessert foods and alcoholic drinks.|||I believe so. In high school I worked at a restaurant and nobody understood the names because they were all related to sports, Homerun Sandwich, Touchdown Salad, etc. But rarely did people read the small print saying what's included in it. However if there was a pic of the sandwich with the name under it they would just point and say, I want that.|||I think it depends on the place. Diners rarely use pictures of actual food, so ordering a meal off a fake picture, doesnt really give you an idea of what your actually getting. The way food on the commercials are never the same as when you go there.

The establishment I work at doesnt have any pictures on the menu, or dessert list, and we seem to do just fine.

I think the servers opinion and descriptions of food items are more important then the picture.|||I think it really depends on the restaurant and its quality.
In Paris we used a single menu with text, however you are expecting people to know what a gratin dauphinoise or declinaison de tomat are..
Using pictures might be quite a disadvantage for some crappy establishments, because whatever you serve, it MUST look exactly as in the picture and if not then you are in your right to send it back to the kitchen.
I usually put pictures on brochures, day or week specials, themed menus. the Menu itself i preffer an elegant text only format.|||I dine out very frequently! Trust me, pictures help.|||I noticed at the restaurant I work at shows pictures of food items that are very popular in the first place. If a food looks funky or unappealing, showing a picture definately will not help.|||Yes, a photo is far more appealing than a written description. it may also make someone try something they might not have before.|||Yes people order the things that are pictured much more often!

People are stupid, they do not like to read the menu they just want to point at a picture. They do not even bother to read the description anymore..|||Yes! I have worked in the restaurant biz for almost 10 years. Whatever food we have pictured seems yo be ordered the most.|||I am majoring in hospitality, and YES, people will order a pictured item more often. It has to be a GOOD picture, though.
Also, people DO notice a highlighted item more often
AND generally, people see the first thing and last thing. The rest is just filler. They also only hear the first thing and last thing (in between is just noise).
I don't have stats, but this has been reiterated by every teacher every time we discuss menues.
Also- keep it simple. My old job had 30 sandwiches. That's just stupid. Ever plop a kid down in front of 30 gifts? They will most likely burst into tears and run away. It's just too hard to make a decision. Adults aren't much different.

But i think for Coffee shops warm colours are best.

Change the menu to a Bill Of Fare. Make it in the 1800's type of colonial style. I'm in America, and this is something we did at a deli we had in Southern California back in the 70's. Our place had a turn of the century saloon look to it, pretty much the local eatery. We had scroll border work done on aged looking parchment paper, and lettering in a Gothic type style, to give a regal look to it, in a plastic cover page protector. Believe it or not, but in a month's time, we'd be missing a few menus. LOL! I guess our food was that good, that people wanted a keep sake.LOL! With the advent of the computer, you could do all the graphics and lettering yourself. I hope this helped, good luck with revamping that menu.

    Southern Style Smothered
    Baked Breaded Pork Chops.
    Recipe by F.E.P.III
    Circa 1950’s

4 pcs Sirloin Cut Pork Chops [cheap $ meat]
    1 lrg Egg
    1/8 cup Milk
    2 cups Seasoned Bread Crumbs
1/2 pkg Dry Onion Soup Mix [only use 1/2 of 1 envelope]
1/4 cup Italian Bottled Dressing [Cheap stuff works great]
1 med Onion, peeled, cut in half & sliced thin
1 med Garlic Clove Chopped finely
    1 tsp Rubbed Sage
    1 cup Sliced Fresh Mushrooms
2 tbls Browning & Seasoning Sauce [like Kitchen Bouquet]
    Canola Oil For Frying

    Preheat oven to 275º [135ºC]

Whisk together the egg & milk and pour into a shallow deep bowl. In a second shallow bowl, [pie plates work great] place seasoned bread crumbs. With a fork, take a chop and place it in the egg wash, turn to cover both sides, briefly drain off extra wash, place chop in bread crumbs & coat on all sides and place on plate, or wax paper, or plastic wrap laid flat on counter. Repeat until all chops are well coated on all sides.
Heat about a 1/2 cup of Canola in a frying pan over medium heat until oil simmers, [no smoke] Place two chops in oil slowly, one at a time. Fry until golden brown on all sides. Remove from oil and set on paper towel to drain. Fry the rest of the chops in the same manner.
In a roasting pan that has a lid, [ I used a blue speckled enamel oval roasting pan with lid] place a medium thin layer of raw onion and the garlic in the bottom of the pan, use about 3/4 of the sliced onions for this layer. Place chops in a single layer on top of the onions, spread the remaining onions on top of the chops. Pour enough water into pan to come to about the top of the chops. Add Mushrooms, onion soup mix, Italian dressing, sage and browning/seasoning sauce. Cover and place into oven, Bake for 2-3 hours at 275 degrees. Check half way through cooking, and add water to maintain above said level. After 2 hours of cooking, check meat with fork, if fork slips into the meat with ease, meat is done.
To make gravy, mix well 3 tbls of flour in 1/2 cup of water, pour mixture into pan, cover and return to oven for 1/2 hour more. Best to serve with mashed potatoes, French-Style green beans with sautéed chopped onions and a splash of Teriyaki sauce on the|||A chalkboard on the wall is usually good for a coffee shop. The best thing to do is to purchase a really good software program that will enable you to create and design them yourself, if you have the ability, it's not that difficult and then, this can also help you create other things such as marketing, or flayers, post cards, invitations, etc. It's only a matter of learning it, playing with it, if your money is tight, otherwise you do need to pay a professional, nothing is free, nobody works for free, students are into studying. Print shops get you a set up and they charge a fee, everyone does nowadays, unless you have an acquaintance, family members always offered their services to me and they still charge the same they'd charge other people for my business, such as cards, stationary, etc., I go elsewhere. Unless the image is a major business symbol for the owner, the court would likely issue a formal cease and desist order. I've been asked to design a menu for a local restaurant and I need to know what to charge. I've thought about letting him pay in gift certificates since he's just starting out, but again, how much is fair? I figure it will take me about 5 hours to complete with occational updates.

Thanks!|||Are you in-charge of the "printers" also? or just the design. In your 5 hours does that include more then one design, each one is a different charge, it progresses from simple to exotic. My base charge is 75.00 an hour, that starts from the first word spoken about the designs (the request). Give your customer a price range up-front, that way you won't be wasting your time on unnecessary work. If you are the one that takes the final to print you add 33% to the print charge if it's a laminated menu, if it's a menu that goes into a slip fold menu cover then you add the 33% to the slip folds also.|||I did this 10 years ago, and the going rate was $20-$25 an hour.

I also designed my own, and it is a fun job. I'd like to get back into it since I HATE typos on a menu.|||I'm assuming, since you asked your question here, that you have 'never' done this before, and that you have 'some' education in design, but are not yet a 'professional'. You WILL BE a PROFESSIONAL after you do this, and that can make an 'amazing difference' in your life, but only if two things happen ... you design an 'amazing menu' and the restaurant owner 'loves it' ...
My first question is 'what' are you working with? I take it that this restuarant has an 'older' menu to 'look at' and that your 'design work' is just to 'make it look and work better' ... but do you have to 'design' a 'whole new look' or does the owner have an 'idea' that is 'set in stone'?
Second, when you say 'design' are you saying that you are going to be 'in charge' of a whole new 'look' or that you are only going to be 'assembling' parts that have been used in previous menus? HOW will you 'draw' these designs ... either your own or 'making copies'?
Third ... how much money do you think you would 'charge' a person for 'about five hours of your time'? Let me tell you that your '5 hour estimate' is WRONG ... and you need to 'double that' at the very least. My husband is a 'computer professional' who 'designs websites' and he ALWAYS 'triples' the time he 'thinks' a job will take, when he's giving his 'estimate of cost' because if he has trouble, it may take that long, but if he 'comes in at his 'original estimate' of time, he'll look VERY GOOD when the next job comes down the line.
Then comes the 'scut work' ... which is all of the many 'words and numbers that you'll have to 'factor in' to the finished menu. REMEMBER THAT YOU WILL NEED TO GO OVER IT TO BE SURE EVERYTHING IS SPELLED CORRECTLY, and that there are no 'errors' in the numbers ... which means not just 'once' using a computer program, but at LEAST 4 separate times.
I actually like your idea of accepting 'gift certificates' because you'll then have 'many gifts' that you can give, or you can use them yourself if you enjoy eating at this restaurant ... but the 'amounts' on those gift certificates will be considered 'real money' to the IRS (or the tax people in your country, county, city, area), and you'll have to 'pay taxes' on the total amount ... whether you think that is 'right' or not.
Next, you'll need to 'know' what other restaurants 'pay' to have their own menus 'designed' in your area, especially the restaurants that are 'similar' in PRICE PAID.
Then ... You will NOT get a 'good price' for 'menu design' from most restaurants because they usually have them either done by the 'parent corporation' that owns them (if it's a large 'chain') or by the owners ...
I think that it would probably be 'best' if you 'undercut' yourself a bit because this is your FIRST design. If you would 'like to make' at least $25 an hour doing work like this, then charge your 'first customer' no more than $20 an hour ... and if you can 'lower' your price a bit more comfortably, then make it more like $15 an hour. Present this 'estimated cost' with your 'over-inflated time estimate' and tell him that it is 'just an estimate' and that you will 'try to get it in for a lot less money and in a lot faster time' ... and then do that ...
And my 'last bit of advice' is that you 'dress as a professional' when you are doing this 'work' even if the ownere of the restaurant is your brother and he sees you in your 'sweats' more often ... in fact, it's when it's a situation like that that it is MOST IMPORTANT for you to 'dress and act like a professional' if that is what you truly want to become. Yes, this is TRUE even if you are a teenager, and are just 'playing' with this ... because what you do NOW will 'reflect' on the type of 'professional' you are going to be no matter what it is you'll be doing in the future. GOOD LUCK!

Alterations done at the bridal shop will always cost more (anything with "bridal" attached to it costs more!).

I suggest a double french bustle, like these:
    http://www.liweddings.com/mywedding/albu鈥?/a>
http://www.liweddings.com/chat/p/1339070鈥?/a>|||I hate to say this, it's so sad, but you really have to think about selling the dress or returning it, (if that's even a possibility, which is rare with wedding dresses). The fact of the matter is that it will never be just right, even if you paid the seamstress to alter it, it is way too large and the shape will never be right, my mother is an uber-talented seamstress and I asked for her opinion as well before I answered you.
You want to be happy on your day and not to have to have this to stress about in addition to other things. Never try to learn to alter on your most special dress. You will be so much more relieved and happy if you just choose something that fits and is less fussy so that you can enjoy yourself without 'babysitting' the dress.
Best of luck to you, congratulations!|||To do the bustle on a budget, perhaps the french bustle would work well on that dress, which would tie the layers by pulling them up under the dress.

If you are able to do alterations yourself then look over these french bustle instructions which are a series of ties under the dress. http://www.doweb4u.com/french_bustle.htm

You might get a quote from an independent seamstress as you wil most likely get a major savings and she may take care of the bustle as well for much less than the $350.

If you don't have a mannequin to hang the dress on, then in a pinch use a coat tree or a strong over the door hook..|||You could do pick ups under the lower three layers. Sew two button loops strategically under the layers with pearl buttons down lower that can be fastened to raise the skirt up.

There are a few web sites that can help you figure it out, including some videos on youtube. I helped do the bustle for my niece's dress.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBzY2KclK鈥?/a>|||Well... there is no possible way u can bustle the dress urslef or without paying money....

i sugest u buy a new dress and return it...there are many stores with cheap drop dead gorgeous dresses.... and its ur wedding!!!!!!!! u have to spend money on urself u will remember this day forever and if u dont alter it u will regret it cuz this is probably ur dream dress.!!!!!!!! i say spend the money on urself!

Thank you|||I've always wanted to go but it's so expensive to park downtown especially if there's an event going on at the Nokia or Staples. I was at a sample sale in London, and I originally purchased a handbag for 300 pounds, and I charged it on an American debit card. I held the bag behind their counter while I looked t other stuff. When I finished looking, I went back to the counter to get my bag, and the people there suddenly said that the purse that I bought was mismarked, and wanted me to pay an extra 450 pounds for it, or else thy won't give me the purse. I asked them to refund my money back and they can take the purse back, but they said that eeveryhings final sale. I had no choice on the spot but to give hem 450 pounds in order to get my purse. After he incident, I've been honking about it, and I think there are so many problems with the way they arranged the incident, especially I know that there are laws to protect customers about buying an item at the advertised price. In this case, can I do a chargeback on the extra 450 pounds that they charge me?|||I seriously doubt there is much you can do about it now, but you might want to make some phone calls-it won't hurt to try. You should have never given them the 450 in the first place. You should have called the authorities and notified them of the situation immediately. You should have called your credit card company and notified them immediately. I would have fought and argued the problem and not let them intimidate me. Let this be a lesson learned. If everything was final sale, then they should have given you the purse---end of story. They totally took advantage of your weakness and you let it happen. Not trying to be mean, just telling it like it is. What jerks. Do you have the price tag still? And the reciepts for the 300 and the 450? Have you called your credit card company about this or even your local authorities? It's really ridiculous and I'm sure you aren't the only victim. They should be reported for this.

  • When you got your wedding dress home, have you pulled it out and tried it on a few times? I bought my dress at a sample sale in November and brought it home the same day. It already fit, so every now and then I take it out and put it on and just get all excited! Today I pulled it out again so that I could try it out with the shoes I just bought. Does anyone else do this, or do you think it will make it less special on the wedding day? I just love my dress so much, I want to wear it all the time, and only wearing it one day of my life is just not enough! :)|||actually i do this once in a while, i bought a dress i liked, but i settled on it, i did, but i liked it a lot, well then a few weeks ago i tried it on and was looking at myself in the mirror and was like this isn't the dress i want to get married in, don't know where that came from, so now i'm hunting another dress, the wedding isn't until next summer, so i have time

i think every bride does that, i have a friend who got married 10 yrs ago, and every year on their anniversary she puts on her dress, he puts on his tux, and they take pictures in them, every year, they have a collage of them, it's really neat to look at their wedding day pic, then every one since to see how they have changed over time. i want to do that with my hubby.|||I think it's a fine I mean you're obviously really excited. You also wouldn't want to get to the wedding day and discover it doesn't fit. As long as you're careful you'll be fine. I'm happy for you and hope everything goes well. :)|||I have two dresses that i can't decide and yes i try them both on at least once a week. I think even if I have decided i will still continue to put it on every now and then.|||I tried it on when I bought it, when I had it altered and after it was altered...I wore it a total of 4 times and I'm glad that I'll never have to wear it again! It squeezed my guts so much! I wanted to wear sweat pants instead (just kidding :).|||Only for the fittings...

But I understand the excitement. Mine isn't at my house because
I live with my fiance.|||I have had mine on twice and because it takes so long to lace up and I cant do it myself, I cant be bothered anymore.
I will be wearing it in 26 days anyway so I dont have any need to keep dragging it out to put it on, I will be sick of looking at it if I do this all the time.|||I hid mine in the closet. I want to pretend it isn't even in there and I haven't seen it before until my wedding day! My mom will probably have me try it on when she comes to visit me in a week or so but otherwise I will just have it on for my final fitting and for the wedding itself. I want to surprise myself with my own prettiness :)|||Once it has been altered to fit correctly and pressed you should leave it alone. If you haven't gotten it pressed you should before the wedding.|||My dress was actually stored at the bridal shop that I bought it at, because it was pretty big and floofy, and I didn't really have the room at home to store it. I did try it on for 2 alterations, and I wore it for my bridal portraits. I probably would've tried it on if I'd had it at home though, because I agree, one day of wearing it was not enough. I wish I could wear it again!

I just bought my wedding dress this weekend. I got it at a sample sale, so I had to bring it home the same day and now I have the dress here at my house. Our wedding isn't for another 9 months, and I'm wondering if there is anything special I should do with it to keep it safe until the wedding? It is hanging by the inside loops on a hanger, covered with a white plastic bag and put into a clear plastic garment bag. I had it hanging in a basement closet, but my dad suggested bringing it upstairs in case the basement gets damp over the winter. So now it's hanging on the back of my bedroom door for lack of any other decent closet space. Is this a good idea? The white bag is tied in a knot at the bottom, and the clear bag is a not airtight... Any other suggestions? Is this too much, too little? Thanks!|||I got my dress pretty early too.
I was told to wrap the dress in a white sheet (twin size should work... pin the sheet so that it stays securly around the dress). Then I put the dress/sheet into a dress bag that zips. I would recommend doing this, as it worked really well for me.
I did that and then hung it in the back of my closet. I also bought two containers called "DampRid" that I found in the cleaning aisle at Wal-Mart. It's supposed to take out any dampness in the air. I didn't have any problems with my closet or anything, but I bought them just in case. They fill up with water eventually, from soaking it all out of the air in your closet. Obviously I wouldn't place them right underneath or above your dress, but somewhere in the closet would work.
Good luck! |||hum..I would let it be like that for a couple months and then a month before the wedding take it out of the bag and let it breath and get air.

I have purchased the Maggie Sottero- Adelaide (link below) at a sample sale and I LOVE the gown, but I can't decide if it needs a crinoline or hoop skirt (or perhaps none of the above). I already have the gown at home and I wasn't able to try on the dress with either of these things to see what it looks like. What do you think?

http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=adelaide&keywordType=any&page=0&pageSize=15&style=A3157|||I would NOT do a hoop skirt. I wore one for a play and let me tell you, there is a reason they went out of style. You can't get in the car. You can't fit through doorways. No one can get within three feet of you. And they look totally unnatural.

Your dress has a beautiful shape and you want to give it a little fullness to show off the skirt. I would go with a crinoline/slip that is just full enough to fill out the skirt - any bridal store can show you some options with different amounts of "poofiness" so you can find the right size for your skirt.|||I assume that the dress already comes with a built-in netting so if you want a fuller look, you can always wear an additional crinoline. Hoops are more for a very full/ballgown skirt, and your dress is more of an A-line so hoops won't work as good.|||If you have ever worn a hoop skirt, for any length of time you would go with the crinoline. You have to learn the trick to sitting in a hoop, you will bump into door ways, if you bend over you run the risk of having someone getting a view that you may not want.

PS Beautiful dress!|||A crinoline at the most. A hoop will be much too full for this dress. Even a crinoline is iffy.

When you try on the dress at home, how does it look? Full enough for your taste? It's quite possible that you can do without either the hoop or the crinoline.|||You should look into just buying a slip. You can get a bridal slip through most bridal shops, and they will give you that full look you want.

Hoops skirts are more work than they are worth.|||i don't think that dress need a petticoat|||I've worn both. I wore the hoop only one time, I ended up going to the rest room and taking the darn thing off!

I think you should lower the price to around 200 dollars, and as people bid the price should go up a bit and then you can change your buy it now price as the bids go up.

I am writing an article in my school's newspaper about spending habits. What do you think so far?

It is 8:30 on a Saturday night. You are getting ready for the crucial third date with your roommate鈥檚 cute cousin from Brooklyn. What should you wear? You know you bought a new pair of Valentino pumps at the sample sale last Thursday, and they would look amazing with that one shoulder dress you bought with the money you were supposed to be saving for the new blender. Oh well, date night is more important. As you rummage through the closet, you find the shoes. Wait, those aren鈥檛 the shoes; yours didn鈥檛 have that little scratch on the toe, and the heel didn鈥檛 look as damaged when you originally purchased it. Oh, there is the receipt sitting next to the box it came in. You sigh and place the shoes back in the box. Great, you think, I spent three hundred dollars for that?

Every day we make purchases like these without even realizing it. You go shopping knowing that you are going to spend your gift card on the coat you have been eyeing for weeks. But as you walk through the stores doors and see all the fabulous merchandise surrounding you, you now see ten other things you want just as bad. Without giving it a second thought, you grab whatever you can get your hands one and head for the checkout. A mere shopping trip has turned into you spending half of your month鈥檚 salary. Well, you could always give up your heating.|||Wow, that's vapid. What exactly is your target audience? WASPs? JAPs? I'm feeling queasy now.

  • I bought a few wedding dresses from a sample sale today. 3 to be exact! I am trying to find them online so I can show friends and family what they look like (I live far away).

First dress is a Private Label by G gown, gold or beige in colour, it has lace and beading across the bodice, lace and beaded regular straps, a train with bottom lace and beading in flowery patterning, and a bow on the back above the bum. It has a semi sweatheart neck line but not low cut. On the shop's tag it said "Light gold" for the color. It is size 14.

Second, I am seeking an Allure gown, A-Line ball gown with a long train. It is a halter neckline with heavy silver beading, has detailing along the bottom of the gown with a straight hem and detailing to match (about 2 inches thick). Underneath the chest along the lower bodice/waist it has a pleated waist band in a bit of a darker ivory. The dress itself is plain satin (or poly, but looks satin). Train is gigantic. I believe it is a size 12 but might be a 14.

Any help appreciated. I will post additional info to confirm if anyone knows what Im talking about.

I'm currently also looking to buy wedding band for my girl friend and after doing research both online and offline retail shop, I have finally found that the reason why most retail shops are so expensive is due to the rental, staff, and other overheads in running a retail shop. For example, I have compared Platinum grade 900 wedding band in a fine retail shop cost 2.5 to 3 times more than a higher grade Platinum grade 950 wedding band.

Advice how to choose a ring size:
This is what I did with my girl friend. We went to 2 or 3 retail jewellery shop to try the sizes and ring type we like and ask the shop assistant about jewellery maintenance and right type of size for our fingers. We then use this information to shop online at Bluenile.

Of course I compare the finest online jewellery shop (there is no compromise on quality). Having found the best online jewellery shop, I search through Google to see if there is any bad reviews of the online shop.

(Good thing about online shop, is the convenience and you can assess the review of customers at some jewellery forums).

I can only tell you that the best shop with the first class fast service and delivery, and consistently ranks high in customers reviews is still Bluenile online shop. Their price of higher quality ring in my purchase is 3 times cheaper than a brick and mortar retail shop in my city.

I fell in love with an Oscar de la Renta dress but it's out of my price range. After receiving many tips on how to get a less expensive version, I figured it would be good to see the gown again in person before trying to get someone to make it. Maybe I could even take my own pictures of it. Anyways, I found a bridal salon about 90 minutes from my house that is having a trunk show for Oscar de la Renta gowns in less than a month! Does that mean it's any less expensive though? Is a trunk show and a sample sale the same thing? I'm really new to all of this and I don't really know what I'm doing, but any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!|||Trunk shows and sample sales aren't the same thing. Trunk shows are not sales, they are an opportunity to check out brand new styles and in some cases you can even talk with the designer. The dresses won't be discounted but you may be able to talk the designer into making changes for you - adding sleeves, extra length, etc.

If you're trying to save money, try sample sales. The gowns are discounted but the sizes are limited (usually 6 and 8 only, sometimes 4). I'd check out the ODLR trunk sale anyway, just to look at all the new styles.|||Yes trunk shows can offer some designs cheaper - but these are not the same as sample sales. Sample sales when the designer is getting rid of the samples or overstock. Trunk shows are to roll out the new stuff... Generally not cheaper|||yes but you buy it as is and have it altered to your specifications. it might have a flaw or not or irregular , if this is the dress you want it isnt that far to go and check it out.

I worked in a local boutique recently, and it was a horrible experience! When one of the managers made the phone call to hire me, I told her I couldn`t start immediately because I was working a sample sale. She replies " why are u working a sample sale, do u do this all the time?!?!?" and then she requests that I don`t work for them anymore. I decided to go on with this because it seemed like a good opportunity.

On my first day, the owner of the
boutique told me the pay was minimum wage! On their job posting, it said "competitive pay" so I felt mislead. I had to take the job since I didn`t have anything else lined up for me at the moment, and I already forfeited my side job. Also on the first day, she had the nerve to be nosy and ask what does my mom do for a living, how big is my home, etc. The manager also had the nerve to ask that later in the day.

As the weeks gone by, there was this one time a customer walked in and out of the store, and the owner said I probably did something wrong because she didn`t buy anything. Or if a customer tried on clothes and didnt buy anything, the owner will say that I did something wrong. She will also say something like "we took a risk with hiring you, now show us why we hired you". I wanted to reply that I took a risk with taking this job, because the day after I got hired, someone called me with a job offer with a much higher pay!

Throughout the months, they just kept on being horrible workers. The manager (the one that asked me to forfeit my side job) would say things like how she is from a rich and important family line, and how she spends $2000 or more when she goes shopping. She would also make up stories and tell the owner that I`m not doing my job, and that I dropped sensor pins all over the floor and she stepped on one! What do u think of this experience and the people?|||Thats ridiculous..and the manager seems like shes a snobby b**** . I would find another job and quite asap. And they have the nerve to treat you like that when they are only paying you min wage. I would tell her how I feel too.

  • i worked for a fashion company and was told I get free things in the sample sale but these new guy tried telling me all the expensive stuff I have is stolen so im waiting to see if they will charge me..im the escape goat!!|||Theft like most crimes is split into two parts:
    1. Mental State
    2. Physical Act

With mental state we mean your intention. Theft (Theft Act 1968) requires a person to knowingly be dishonest.

With physical act we mean that the object (clothes) was taken and not returned at a later date.

From your question you state that you were told that it was ok to take the clothes in question. You need to ensure that you can recall who it was who told you that. It is important whether the information was from a credible source. If it was general gossip from the canteen then that is not likely to be considered reliable. If it was from *your* supervisor / manager / HR then that would be considered reliable.
If you have this information from a reliable source, or it is in writing such as part of your employment contract then theft has not occurred as you acted honestly.

If you cannot prove the above then take the clothes back as Theft requires the taking to be permanent. TWOK (Taking without consent) is usually applied to joyriders but could be applicable.

I assume you no longer work for the fashion house. I would also assume they are strying to stop the practice by making you a scapegoat. This is very unfortunate. I would suggest speaking to a solicitor or the citizens advice bureau.

From the 9 Dec 2008 the sentencing guidelines are:
Fine - Impulse Theft (aggravated if from a small enterprise)
Community Sentence - Persistent petty theft
Custodial Sentence - Theft from the vulnerable (higher if above 拢2,000)|||Theft is theft, but depending on what reasons were given, different sentences will be given. For example, based on recent convictions, theft for drugs purposes would likely incur some rehab and suspended sentencing. Stealing for profit is likely to incur a little more harsh sentence. Finally, stealing to put food on the table at home would likely fetch the most severe sentence.|||Well you'lll definitely lose your job - the rest is up to the courts.

After what you just added I would put down in writing what you have told us, then bring the items back to work if you can.
If you show that you are not hiding anything and that this was a misunderstanding I would not sack you or class this as stealing.
In fact you could probably take them to court if they dismiss you for this reason. If you have anyone who heard them say about the free stuff then get them to back you up in a meeting with your boss.
As long as you returned the items as soon as you found out there should be no problem. I would also question why this new guy is stirring up something that happened before he worked there - he wasn't there. Just be open and honest and approach your boss and there will be no problem.
Also ask them to deduct from your wages if there are items not able to bring back. Your honesty should get a good response.|||Quite harsh - employee theft is REALLY frowned upon by the courts....stealing from the people that pays your wages is not looked at kindly.

First offence - a hefty fine at the minimum - possibly a suspended sentence.

If you have a record - it could be a lot worse

I caught a member of staff at the company I was employed at - he stole 拢300 - in court he was found guilty (even though he admitted his guilt), he got 12 months inside - first offence.|||Sentences are always dependant on circumstances - i.e. what was stolen, how it was stolen (premeditated or impulse), any extenuating circumstances.|||Most employers would just give you the sack and no Reference, if it goes to court its anybody's guess 6 months suspended maybe.

Many-a-bee has blogged about Gilt Group before me. I’m sure you’ve already heard of it, but in case you haven’t, it’s an online sample sale site that sells top designer brands like Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen, Vera Wang, J Brand, Seven, Marchesa… at up to 70% off (and even more during their final sales)! I’ve seen things I’ve purchased off Gilt Group sell for much more on sites like Bluefly and in stand alone boutiques.

Their sales start at 12pm EST and only last a day. Gilt Group sends out an email just past noon about the day’s sales, but if you click on over any time after 12, the most popular items will already be sold out.

So here are my Gilt Group tips:

If there’s a designer you’re interested in, click over to the site at 11:59 am and start clicking refresh!
When the sale appears, put anything you might want to buy in your shopping cart. Within 2 minutes, I kid you not, the most popular styles and sizes will already be sold out.
If an item you want is in someone else’s shopping cart, don’t bother with the “email me if this item becomes available” link. I’ve tried it and have never received an email. Keep checking if you can put it in your shopping cart — it may take up to ten minutes because items can be held in someone’s cart for up to that long. The item usually becomes available and you can purchase it!
All items are returnable for store credit, so you’re not stuck with something that doesn’t fit or look right.

Gilt Group is an invitation only site, so you can use this link to set up your account:

This week the New York Times reported a disheartening story about two of the largest retail chains. You see, instead of taking unsold items to sample sales or donating them to people in need, H&M and Wal-Mart have been throwing them out in giant trash bags.

And in the case that someone may stumble on these bags and try to keep or re-sell the items, these companies have gone ahead and slashed up garments, cut off the sleeves of coats, and sliced holes in shoes so they are unwearable.

This unsettling discovery was made by graduate student Cynthia Magnus outside the back entrance of H&M on 35th street in New York City. Just a few doors down, she also found hundreds of Wal-Mart tagged items with holes made in them that were dumped by a contractor. http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/beauty/h-…|||Thank you for that information. Who cares what they do with their stuff they can still be a family store. Restaurants throw out leftover food at closing time, no matter whether there's one serving left in a pan or 23 out of 24. It goes into the dumpster. Talk about wasteful! While warm clothes are very important too, they won't make that much of a difference without food|||that's stupid!! think of all the family's i need! they could donate all those clothes to orphanages and homeless shelters!|||I was not aware of any such practice. This is appalling. I am disgusted as you are that there are suffering people right here in our Country, not to mention the millions suffering around the world. How could such a corporation be so stupid? To destroy the products so that no one can get any use out of them. Just sickening. I will remember this next time I consider shopping at one of these stores. Thank you for schooling me on this info.|||Wal-Mart's only objective is to make money, and they do it off the backs of the poor. They have no interest in helping anyone other than themselves as a corporation, more profit, higher value in the stock market.....Don't get me started.....|||This isn't specific to Wal-mart. Most big corporations do things like this. I once worked for a grocery store that would throw out enormous bags of day-old bread every day. Perfectly good bread. But if an employee takes any "garbage" bread home or gives it away, that's a crime and they're fired.

It was incredibly frustrating walking home and passing by homeless people on the streets after having just thrown out enough food to feed all of them.|||Yeah, I never shop there.|||No surprises there. Walmart knows if they donate the clothes to the salvation army, hospice thrift shops or some other charity people will buy them and not come to walmart. They have shown their true colors in many other ways, forcing small businesses out by selling cheap chinese made junk while the mom and pop stores try to sell quality American made.|||I know this has been going on for a while. I used to work for a place that would buy stuff cheap in bulk from either stores that were closing and needed to liquidate there merchandise or just stuff that was no long wanted by the store and turn around and sell them to anybody that would want them. Usually we would find garments that would have holes in them (not to the point that they showed in the picture in the article though). Usually the holes were located in the shoulder area or in the back. When we asked about it we were told it was to deter from theft on the mannequins. It didn't look good to have the anti-shoplifting tags on it so they would mutilate the garment to prevent theft.|||It's not right, but those two stores are NOT the only ones, most stores do the same. Research it. Ask yourself "WHY" did they brought out only those two. Coming from the New York Times, it's completely clear their intentions. And, again, I'm not saying is right, but if the subject is brought up, why not making clear that is a common practice of many stores.|||I'm sorry but it tends not to upset me too much. Wal-Mart has a good history with charitable causes, notably CMN and Muscular Dystrophy. Many stores do the same thing. Food is a different matter. Clothing can be literally had for free. Go to a yard sale and pick all you want; they'll be happy to get rid of it.

On December 7, she spotted 20 bags of clothing outside of H&M including, "gloves with the fingers cut off, warm socks, cute patent leather Mary Jane school shoes, maybe for fourth graders, with the instep cut up with a scissor, men’s jackets, slashed across the body and the arms. The puffy fiber fill was coming out in big white cotton balls.”

The New York Times points out that one-third of the city's population is poor, which makes this behavior not only wasteful and sad, but downright irresponsible. Wal-Mart spokeswoman, Melissa Hill, acted surprised that these items were found, claiming they typically donate all unworn merchandise to charity. When reporters went around the corner from H&M to a collections drop-off for charity organization New York Cares, spokesperson Colleen Farrell said, “We’d be glad to take unworn coats, and companies often send them to us."

After several days of no response from H&M, the company made a statement today, promising to stop destroying the garments at the midtown Manhattan location. They said they will donate the items to charity. H&M spokeswoman Nicole Christie said, "It will not happen again," and that the company would make sure none of the other locations would do so either. Hopefully that's the final word. [NY Times][Huff Post]|||I read that and I hope everyone who frequents these "crap-houses" remembers just how generous and thoughtful they REALLY are. It's about time someone found out and reported the other side of them. They've got many "skeletons in the closet."|||Agreed! I like to spread my dollars around, and really do my homework on these GIANTS and how they got that way, and what they're doing to give back. Thank you! Bogey

    |||This is part of the price of the new capitalism which is based entirely upon greed. I'm sure that Rush would tell you that the stuff belongs to these stores and that they can and should do with it whatever they want to.|||Years ago I was told they also toss out t.v's and other things so this doesn't surprise me at all.

what are these companies thinking? how hard would it have been to call a local shelter to pick the stuff up rather than trash it?|||This practice is nothing new. Stores have done this for years to keep people and employees from resale of items. It goes beyond clothes, they also trash camping equipment that has minor flaws.|||In answer to your question got me thinking about all the tons & tons of taxpayer payed stuff our dear old military dumped into the ocean after WW2 to keep off the civilian market. I suspect they still do it.|||A lot of companies donate materials that dont sell but they have to be careful that people dont try to return them for credit or exchange.|||Seems unconsionable but I bet fear of lawsuits has something to do with it.|||I have a question to ask...
Why are so many people digging through other people's garbage?
Is that the "hip" thing to do these days?|||waste not, are only simple words but would love to see stores at least donate to a charity|||Yes, I read the article & got a chuckle out of the fact that this wasteful practice is just now coming into the public eye. I first noticed this when I had my first retail job in the 60's! It's been happening ever since I can remember. Especially at the beginning of each year, when the retailers often "pad" their losses for the previous year for a better tax write off & market manipulation.

We used to make a trip to the county dump to gleen the excess food & clothing each January 1st-7 & we took out many truck loads of perfectly good stuff that we shared with our friends. These days, the dumps won't let you take anything that has already been dumped. They say they have the salvage rights to all that comes in & is unloaded onto their lot. You can sit outside & still make exchanges with some drivers!

I like the fact that these stores aren't doing it themselves, but they seem to have no problems with hiring a small firm or individual as a subcontractor to dispose of their waste & unwanted items! We used to call it "quality control" & I guarantee all of you that this practice will not stop. It will just take on a new twist! Shredding will soon be making a LOT of people a hefty profit!|||25 years ago, our local newspaper ran an article about this practice, it was our local K-mart. Someone had found cases of shoes that were cut up and in the dumpster. The manager said he had to, and couldn't even donate them or they would end up back on the shelves as store returns. Others dishonesty always changes the rules and makes it hard on everyone.|||I asked someone who works in the Walmart corporate office about this. He said that when one of the stores has merchandise that would normally be returned to a vendor for any reason, the vendor may not wish to pay for shipping or handle the returns and will issue a refund or credit and instruct the store to destroy the merchandise rather than send it back. That merchandise no longer belongs to the store, so the store cannot give it away.

He also pointed out that millions of dollars worth of product is donated to charities and food banks.

It is tragic that perfectly good items are destroyed, but one should not jump to conclusions without knowing the facts.|||Not very "green" is it, to destroy good useable items?

The military dumped cargo ships full of new stuff, one after another, after World War II. Heard the story from a man who's father was in charge of a ship that did that for months. He said his father grew up during the Depression and what he had to do depressed him mentally for a long time after he got out of the military. The reasoning was that the economy would suffer if the stuff was sold cheaply, and factories needed to get going again.

Individuals are being fed a guilt-trip on a daily basis by the mass media about conserving energy and resources and substainability while the most largest corporations are doing everything possible so we will spend more money. What is right with this scenario?|||Just read it, too...very sad. And Walmart always portrays itself to be for the little guy.

We have a Goodwill close by and I often see large lots of clothing, stationary, etc. that Target has donated. All the things are new, with the tags and prices still on them.

Score one for a box store with a conscience!|||Private businesses are not the only ones doing this. Tax funded medical facilities trash wheel chairs, hospital beds, furniture, and food. These items are bought and paid for by the tax payers, and any shelter or needy person would be glad to receive these items. But instead they are thrown away. And you wouldn't believe the huge, huge waste of items bought and then trashed by our local, state, and federal governments. Sad, but true. I agree that private businesses should donate unwanted items, but I find it even more tragic that our government uses our money to buy and trash things instead of donating them.|||I read this news this morning I don't know who H&M is but Walmart should be very ashamed of this practice. Wasn't it "us" who made them one of the wealthiest retail chains in the world? Isn't it time to give back to a community that needs help. So many organizations could use these items to distribute to families in need. Especially with the high rate of unemployment, this is inexcusable. Shame on Walmart, Shame, shame, shame.

If YOU want to give new clothes to the poor, no one is stopping you.|||It seems heartless and wasteful, but WalMart is in the RETAIL business - not the CHARITY business. They are not REQUIRED to donate unsold items.

If you disapprove of their actions - don't shop there anymore.|||Wal-Mart is pretty rad.

Craziest New York moment: Grabbing a slice of Ray’s pizza with T.I.|||Same thing happens to unsold books...but you're not bitching about that

It happens with much unsold merchandise...same thing with food retailers|||If a bum died wearing the clothing, the bum's family would sue Walmart. The problem is the out of control legal system in America.|||After several days of no response from H&M, the company made a statement today, promising to stop destroying the garments at the midtown Manhattan location. They said they will donate the items to charity. H&M spokeswoman Nicole Christie said, "It will not happen again," and that the company would make sure none of the other locations would do so either. Hopefully that's the final word. [|||You all ***** at them because they have stuff from CHINA and you ***** at them when they do community service work...you sue them when things go wrong...HOW do you know WHY they destroyed the clothing. Maybe it was damaged beyond repair. I do not take what the media posts as truth anymore...they post what they want and then when the truth comes out they never retract anything.

I WORK for WALMART and SAMS I know they do FAR MORE community service and do far more good for communities than you would imagine. The only other company that is comparable to giving back to communities is McDonalds and look how you put them down too!

I would have to know the WHOLE STORY before believing what the media posts...they LIE over and over and over again.

You people need to think for yourselves and not rely on news for TRUTH! You do not get it through them....that is PROVEN FACT!

I can tell you at SAMS we are not allowed to give away food to the food bank or the homeless shelters. THEY have been sued over and over again because they have them food that expired that day ! The Health dept ok'd the stuff before it went but it wasn't good enough....so they sue.

So if people don't get the benefit of free stuff....I can tell you..IT IS THEIR FAULT for being jerks and whining about something being wrong or not getting ENOUGH or the right size etc. It is ridiculous. Just like the family of illegals that came and died in the dessert and their family of illegals sued the U.S and WON millions of dollars and had to put up water stations for the illegals coming over. IT IS RIDICULOUS!

It has nothing to do with glut and greed and wanting money...Walmart and Sam's gives hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to charities and runs fund raising for children hospitals. You people are rude and ignorant of facts and no wonder you can't think for yourself..you rely on the NEWS to give it to you without having a brain and doing some research for yourself and finding out the TRUTH and causes. Good Grief.......no wonder no one wants to do any good for anyone..all you people do is find the smallest thing and ***** about it all the time. NEVER praise or even the benefit of the doubt....JUST *****!|||Hey now, hold on. I read the article too but took a different view.

Why should Walmart HAVE to donate something? Are the 'poor' entitled to what Walmart owns?
-they did it because if they donated the clothing people wouldn't need to buy it making them unprofitable. SIMPLE ECONOMICS.

I have a hundred thousand dollars in a savings account, do the poor of New York feel that I must donate that since I have it and they need it? STUPID THINKING, but I do understand where you're coming from. the article was just written poorly.|||It was their property and they are allowed to do whatever they wish with their own clothes. Haven't you ever thrown anything away that you didn't want or did you donate everything you have never wanted to the poor?|||"Tis better to sell a coat to 1 man and let 100 men freeze than to let 101 men get coats for free."

Isn't that in the Bible or something?|||That story took me by surprise. Wasting anything is awful. There are homeless shelters and charity groups that would have welcomed that clothing. I'm sure it all boils down to money and glut, as ususal. Ugh.|||They are in business to sell clothes. Not give them away.
I shop at Walmart all the time. Its a great store.|||When has Walmart ever cared what anyone thought of them? i am not going to let it ruin my day though or effect where i go shopping. Its not Walmarts job to provide for everyone. So get over it. Why didn't you run down there and donate your entire closet full of clothing? Exactly, cause before that article was posted, you didn't care either. next please|||Well, maybe our over controlling govt should now mandate that all clothes not sold be given to charity so that those people can buy the products at a great big discount. Look, I would explain this to you but you are one of those who believes that businesses are beholden to you and the people and that profit is a bad thing|||For the same reason that McDonald's throws away perfectly good
food, and grocery stores throw away tons of fine food that is date
expired: they can't afford the legal liability that comes with products
getting to people via routes outside of a normal business transaction.
The lawyers, and the lawsuits they could bring against any large company that allows their "discarded" products into the hands of
the public, make sure that companies can no longer allow it. It is
in their best legal interests to simply destroy the products and
support the community via other means, which Wal-Mart, McDonalds,
H & M, etc. all do with generous donations.
So, as usual, blame the lawyers!|||not only wal-mart.

It's there stuff , you must be one of "those" who feel you HAVE to be TOLD what to do with "your stuff".|||Very very selfish, really no other reason.
I don't shop at either store, never have never will.|||We need to stay out of wal-mart for just one week and teach china a lesson too.|||I just read that too. I couldn't believe it! I thought Wal- Mart was all "Lets help the less fortunate and lower prices," and all that. I honestly can't even begin to understand why such a big company would destroy untouched clothes when there are children not only in NYC, but all around the world that don't even have a pair of shoes to walk with! Its like the big companies think "If we can't have it, nobody can." It really makes you think how ungrateful and greedy these big shot companies have become. Why would the do this? Because big grossing companies like H&M and Wal-Mart don't care about the children and adults who suffer each day, and freeze do death because they can't afford a coat that is now in a garbage bag slashed up with the sleeves gone.

I'm in need of some sunglasses and I was contacted by a company who was hosting (I signed up to their waiting list) a sample sale. I went by this morning to check out the sales and they were selling Tom Ford sunglasses for $100 and the regular ranged from $425-$495. I was thinking of picking a pair I had my eyes on but I wasn't sure if I should spend $100 on sunglasses (even if their a really good deal) when I could just purchase a pair for cheaper. I also need some good quality sunglasses since my eyes get lighter than my normal skin tone if I stay out in the sun too much.

So, are Tom Ford sunglasses worth it?

These are the pairs I was considering getting:

    or
http://www.sunglasseschristiandior.com/P鈥?/a>|||Noooooooooooooo!!! Don't do it hun, Bigger designers are much cheaper and they look better so put your bank card back in your purse and go to a dolce and gabbana site, or gucci, stella mcartney, prada, armani, versace! They sell amazing shades!!!!!!!|||A majority of sunglasses are all made by the same manufacturer, such as Safilo or Luxottica. They're also mostly made from plastic so personally, I don't find them worth the price, more of a con. They make an amazing profit on these items as shoppers might not be able to afford a handbag or piece of clothing, but they will pay for shades. Of course you can purchase a pair for cheaper, as long as they have UV protection, but also try TJ Maxx, they always have a fantastic range of last season shades at really affordable prices. that way, if you scratch them or lose them, it won't matter. and if you don't like them next year, you won't have wasted too much money. plus at those prices, you can have 4 pairs instead of 1. Honestly, don't get sucked into paying $495 for plastic glasses! you'll only sit on them / lose them. PS I got Marc Jacob, Diesel, Ferre and Burberry shades at Maxx, they also have Missoni, Miu Miu, Chloe etc. worth a look.|||I have three pairs of glasses, 2 pairs are Ray Bans which are pretty cheap and i also have a pair of D&Gs which were super expensive but i rarely wear, i prefer the Ray Bans, so i'm just saying that i personally think that the most expensive sunglasses aren't necessarily the better option. I've heard alot of good stuff about Tom Ford regarding eye protection and they do have some beautiful options of models, so if that's what you want go for it!

H&M and Wal-Mart destroy and trash unsold goods instead of donating them to the poor and needy.

You see, instead of taking unsold items to sample sales or donating them to people in need, H&M and Wal-Mart have been throwing them out in giant trash bags. And in the case that someone may stumble on these bags and try to keep or re-sell the items, these companies have gone ahead and slashed up garments, cut off the sleeves of coats, and sliced holes in shoes so they are unwearable.

http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/beauty/h-m-and-wal-mart-destroy-and-trash-unsold-goods-562909/|||Not angry with Walmart at all. They are not in the business of giving merchandise away. They have done nothing wrong and in fact, are quite charitable. Marathon Pundit: Wal-Mart ups charity donations
378 million in donations in the U.S., an increase from the $296 million given the prior year. Few other businesses are as philanthropic as Walmart. Don't like the store, don't shop there. Your loss.|||Those are "Evil Empires". Since the death of Wal-Mart's Founder, things have gone in the wrong direction. Greed has taken over. It is sad to report that a large percentage of Wal-Mart Employees qualify for Food Stamps while the Head Hanchos walk away with Millions each and every year. Now, that tells us something.

To destroy ANYTHING that could be used by someone needy is a Crime. I have changed my buying habits drastically. I support as much as possible all little Shops. I may initially pay a little more but in the long run I save a lot. These Shops do not fill their shelves with things I do not need.|||No; perhaps at the local managers who made the decision. Wal-Mart has stated that their policy is and has been to donate such items to charity and H&M, after a delay inwhich they were likely studying the issue, has stated that it will never happen again there or at any other location.|||That command came from the highest corporate office.
Maybe someone there will explain their reasoning.

If no reason will be given by a certain time- say end of January
then there can be something the walmart employees can explain in a press conference to explain the reason to the suffering people.

    such as
" we only want you in good times
In bad times, you are on your own"
    signed walmart management and employees.

destruction of perfectly useable merchandise = karmic debt incurred.|||These companies' actions are sick for more than ethical reasons. Most corporations donate for the tax deduction they get for donating. If the stuff's going to the poor, they can't be thinking that by donating it, they'll be loosing sales.|||It's a legal thing. They ask the company the products came from if they want to pick up the materials, or donate/destroy them. They do what they are told|||I let our readers know about this today too, its sickening I am not shopping the the greedy bas....ds anymore, as with my daughter, girlfriend and neighbor.|||Hate Wal*Mart. I like Target and Forever 21 better than H&M and Wal*Mart.|||That's really mean, no excuse for that|||yeah, what they did was so selfish|||Wal-Mart is evil. Remember back in the eighties, when Wal-Mart was all about "buy American", well not anymore. The company outsources manufacturing jobs to China so they can slash their prices. When smaller business can't match the low Wal-Mart price they have no choice in a lot of cases but to go out of business. So the small company goes out of business, workers are laid off and where do they go? The go work at Wal-Mart where they get no benefits. Wal-Mart also happens to be the largest employer in the world, yes, in the world. The company makes billions of dollars every year but they will not give their employees health benefits.

So, it doesn't surprise me that they would slash up garments or shoes so that no one else can have them. That's the way Wal-Mart does business. The citizens of Portland Oregon wont even let Wal-Mart open a store in their town because they're afraid of what it might do to local businesses, but most Americans are just happy as can be to go spend their money in a store owned by a corporation that is contributing to the downfall of our country, all because it costs a few pennies less.

Seriously, don't shop at Wal-Mart. Even if you have to pay a little more it's worth it not to support f*&^% Wal-Mart

I just "discovered" eBay (never used it due to security, authenticity and scamming fears). I realised that there are several sellers who sell designer clothing for VERY cheap. MUCH lower than actual retail value. Automatically I would suspect a fake, HOWEVER, they have 100% positive feedback ratings and good reviews from those who've bought the seller's prodcuts. The thing is, these are not regular people who just sell random things as they come up as I've noticed. These guys have A LOT of product, all in packaging with tags. Like a stock with different sizes and styles. I want to know how these people can get such huge quantities of "authentic" designer clothing way below the prices? Is it possible? I never understood how this works (i.e. discount retailers like Century 21 and sample sales). Do you think these ebay people are legit. They certainly seem really sincere and everyone seems to agree. It just seems impossible to me!|||Alot of people buy stuff at wholesale prices and resell them lower. You can research or do a search engine of "making money off eBay" or "selling wholesale" and you will find alot of sites that will sell you stuff like high end shoes or clothes at wholesale prices so you can make money by reselling them higher than what you paid for them but still lower than retail.|||I never bought from that ,but i usually buy from this shop :

  • So here is my story. Spent the last 9 years of my life working in the architecture industry. Got laid off last year after coming to the firm last year and them guaranteeing me work and that they were financially stable. Of course it didnt work out. Ive been trying to get ANY job with my current resume, but no one will respond in ANY industry. The ones that do respond commented that I would just leave the position and go back to architecture once the economy got better. So I totally changed my resume for jobs that I know I can do and dont require a lot of knowledge, like sales. I send out my new resume, a recruiter responds. They get me to do a phone interview, IQ test, and a sample sales project. Not to my surprise I pass them all as it aint rocket science. I go on the job interview and it goes well as I BS my way through. Im expecting to get an offer next week as they need to fill the role soon. I have been advised by some that its OK to lie if you know you can do the job, which I can its sales not a medical practice. My question is for HR people is what is the ramifications for this? I really dont care if I get fired, but would I be liable for any costs or have to pay anything back? I havent signed anything yet? And for you moral judgers out there I've been battling this recession for over a year now and I need to keep a roof over my head and feed my son. So please no judging, just the facts. Besides Corporate America has been lying to people for years, in fact they created this mess. Im just doing it on a smaller scale.|||In order for them to make you pay for any "training", they would have to prove you purposefully have deceived them. Even if they are able to prove it, it would cost them way more money and time to do so than the cost of training. The onus is on the company to verify your credibility. As long as you have not promoted yourself in any form or fashion that is against the law, such as claiming you are a lawyer, doctor, cpa, etc.|||You may have to repay the cost of any training, and you might have to forfeit some of your pay as well.

This week the New York Times reported a disheartening story about two of the largest retail chains. I mean, seriously, people who shops(like my family, specifically my mom,me & my sisters)have to walk around a lot carrying shopping bags, and that's really tiring.Sure it's not like proper 'exercise',for example,if someone ask what kind of exercise do you do,saying "Oh,I shop." doesn't sound proper. But it's still exercise, all those walking around carrying heavy shopping bags. And at crazy sales or sample sales shoppers move around a whole lot more.(Sorry if this doesn't make sense, but I'm sleepy now and I really want to know why do people think shopping is not exercise).|||it should totally count as exercise, i know first hand how tiring it is ;)|||I finally found someone who agrees with me! I go shopping every Saturday with my mom, and we're out for 2 - 4 hours, just depending, all of which I'm walking everywhere I go. It is a lot of work to go grocery shopping, but it really isn't exercise. It's a physical activity, but it's not quite exercise. Especially if you're like me, and other people I know, you only do it once or twice a week.

Maybe that's not a good explanation as to why it's not considered exercise....but, it truly is a lot of work. Good question! XD|||Well it is a form of exercise, but I def wouldn't consider going shopping if I want to drop 5 pounds. I think people who are more serious about exercise wouldn't see that way because shopping is not going to get your heart rate up to where it needs to be in order to benefit from the exercise. I know daily things like that can contribute to exercising, but I don't think it is a good form to get healthy. But you are right, it can be a workout. Especially on black friday lol.|||Anything that keeps you moving is exercise. It is not only carrying the "heavy" bags but also families tend to spend hours shopping. When my family and I go to a new mall or a distant one, we walk around shopping from morning until it closes. It is way better than sitting on the couch all day eating out of the tub of double fudge chip whatever ice cream. At least you and your mom and sisters can fit into nice clothes haha. Right?|||It's not :/

An hour of shopping is NOT the same as an hour of brisk walking. When you shop, you stop for a moment to pick the item, stand at the register and try on clothes. With brisk walking, you don't ever stop until you're done.

    Not the same thing.

Rarely do i see someone work up a serious sweat by shopping.|||When I go to the gym and walk at 6.5km per hour for 45 mins I burn around 450 calories and so totally, walking does burn calories and is exercise it just depends how long you walk for whilst shopping and for how long as to how many calories you will burn. Buy a pedometer to wear and then you will see!|||I don't know, maybe it's because your actually enjoying it.|||It's only because it doesn't fall under the exercise catagory. Like I could say I get excercise from walkihng around the house, doing chores ect.

Free Enterprise. It's a business, not a charity.|||I am so angry about this, they (Walmart) are always telling how much they give back to the communities, well they sure dropped the ball on this. We'll have to wait and see if they follow through on their word to stop and to give those clothes to the needy. If any is found anywhere and I'm sure there are going to be people looking, then I suggest a boycott. Give them a chance to correct their wrong.|||they can do what they want with their merchandise.|||I read that.
That is a tragedy.|||I read that and was very upset too. Why would they do that?
It doesn't make any sense. Why not gain credibility and give it to needy families?|||What is Walmart?|||Actually, I've *been* boycotting Wal-Mart for years over this and lots of other things--they treat their workers and customers alike like dirt.

And yes, I get it that some people *can't* boycott--Wal-Mart made its first billion or so by driving local stores out of business and getting the local monopoly, Microsoft-style. Lie, cheat and steal. I get that.

But....seriously. Wal-Mart is in fact the *single* worst offender when it comes to big-box stores, and has been for years. Go to your local public library, find the book _Nickeled and Dimed_, read the thing...then check out the copyright date. It's an old book these days.

This should be a hint: Wal-Mart depends on people's not being willing to fight if it's a hassle or an inconvenience. Their whole existence as business *depends* on people being willing to tolerate a rising tide of fascist nonsense in the name of convenience and "low prices" thanks to everything being from China or some other third-world dictatorship.

If it's just *me* boycotting, it won't do much. If it's just me and my friends....ehh, it won't make the news on the back pages.

If a whole Category of Yahoo! Answers, several thousand strong, *refuses* to spend one more red cent there and tells their friends to do the same....that might get people's attention.

And I've only been saying this from day one: the *only* way you can win one against these people is if you show up where they are and *fight them* in their own language, on their own terms.

In this case this means boycotting the clear worst offenders, like Wal-Mart. Their language is profit, and the worst, most backward and insular sort of "community". Really, I grew up watching their early propoganda--that TV show, "the Waltons". After a while it didn't take--it became a joke instead.

So you refuse to give them *money*, and you refuse to tolerate their flagrant disregard for human rights and labor rights on the American soil they *exploit*.

Sorry for being so hardassed about it, but really. What's next? Are you going to let Wally World start shooting people before you act against them? Or do they have to declare statehood first?

What will it take, for at least some folks to get a clue and act on it? Saying "no" isn't hard folks.|||Walmart is AWESOME! What the F*** are you talking about! That's where i get my Miley Cyrus merchandise from a**hole!|||NO, I won't boycott, but that is awful crappy.

If i take it anywhere, theyre gonna think i stole it... especially because I have no receipt... Do you think if i called one of their stores and explained this, they would beleive me? I really like this shirt :(|||If you go into the store with the shirt in a bag of that shop (Eg, if its from John lewis, take it in a John Lewis bag to show you've purchased something from there before.

Go up to the customer services (if not just the till) and tell them what happened and why you didn't get a receipt.
If you stole it then the alarm would go off as you enter the shop, and you didn't steal it so they can't take it from you.

It takes them seconds to remove it, they wont make a fuss out of it so don't worry.|||take it off, CAREFULLY!

I would really like to know what websites that are online sample sales. I'm looking for some really nice designer outfits for my trip coming up...|||It is hard to find sample sales online. Where do you live...NYC has some great sample sales as well as little shops that sell current clothing at a discount price.

If you are shopping online-try websites like bluefly.com, shopbop(sale section). Right now there is so much on sale, you are better off buying that instead of looking for a sample sale. Nieman Marcus and Saks have great year end sales.

  • for slashing up garments, cutting off sleeves of coats, and slicing holes in shoes so they are unwearable instead of taking unsold items to sample sales or donating them to people in need.|||Yeah, that's a BAD MOVE on Wal-Mart's part.
If they were so worried about illegal returns, couldn't they just donate them to poor countries?

Or they could have either stamped the labels with donation designation or they could have cut the labels in half.
There's so many thing they could have done to save those clothing besides what they actually did.|||I don't think this is a corporate practice, as I have seen (and purchased) garments with the Wal-Mart hang tags and prices still on them in my local Ocean State Job Lot store. They do mark or cut the labels in the clothing, though, so they cannot be purchased at bargain prices at Ocean State and then returned for full retail price at Wal-Mart.|||Yeah even considering that it took place at NY! ! 1/3 of the population is homless or very poor. Walmart is a very selficious general store. I watched a video on walmart and it was so sad because there were instinceses where ppl were mugged or even raped in their parking lot despite them having multiple cameras.|||Yeah, that's incredibly sad, pathetic and selfish. There are so many needy people who could have used those clothes and look at how good the publicity would have looked if they donated it all to charity. I haven't shopped at Wal Mart for almost ten yrs and mainly because there isn't a store close to me, but I won't be shopping there anytime soon.|||I think you're to quick to pounce on Wal-Mart. This happened at one Wal-Mart store. I don't believe that is company policy. Many, many, people depend on Wal-Mart for quality products at low prices. Some just don't like a store simply because most other people do like it, so it just sounds like perhaps you're one of these.|||Yes, they are being completely irresponsible in that regard. However, the story only talks about that NY store, so hopefully it was a local persons laziness and lack of ethics and not a national thing with them. With H&M it seems to be a company-wide practice, which is awful.|||They are going to take a lot of heat for this....especially in this economy with people out of work. All the clothing should have been donated to charity. Who's idea was that? I never shop there as the parking lot is a muggers dream come true. And they have done nothing to step up security.|||I know, i read that and that is just HORRIBLE!!! Then the spokeperson was acting like they were shocked themself! thats hallarious! Then H&M with new york being one of the top homeless people state.. they just throw all that stuff out! thats is just freakin crazy! Then all they said was "sorry, we wont do it again". They should be SERIOUSLY fined some how for this! that is just TERRIBLE!|||I just read about that. It is sickening that all that labor to produce the clothing is just wasted. If the company is worried about people finding and returning the discarded items then they should just remove the tag. No tag, no return.|||Have you taken into account the probability of those ``donated`` items being returned for cash?
Many stores have had this problem, and this is the way they solve it.|||Was unaware of that practice. If that is true then yes. Of course the ones that these things would be donated to are probably the same that are buying them in the first place. Its a bit of a catch 22 on the profit margin.|||Definitely! I mean, I already hate Wal-Mart. I refuse to shop there for many different reasons but what they did is just stupid and selfish and very wasteful. I hate them even more! I know hate is a strong word but I just really really don't like them!!!|||I can't believe Wal-Mart does this. Where did you hear about this? Most stores will
sell out of season clothing and overstock to stores that purchase such items. Wal-Mart will also donate items which in turn becomes a write off for them come tax time.|||It is at every retail giant that is out there. Home Depot throws away perfectly find Mahagony doors. That they can't give it a way to ppl in need|||Wal-Mart anti family store, get your money close ma and pa shops to bring you --- world domination and raising prices hahahaha

I live in California and I am planning on going to New York over Thanksgiving holiday. I am a teenager and I'm going with my sis who is about 20 yrs old.
I would really appreciate it if you told me all the places I can visit like Broadway, best hotels, art museums, SHOPPING(I LOVEEE), and sample sales(how to go there and where).
Thanks!!|||Museum Mile in New York is on the east side of Central Park on Fifth Avenue from 82nd to 104th. Met, Guggenheim, Cooper-Hewit and more.

South Street Seaport is both a shopping mall and a marine museum. I'd recommend the 'Top of the Rock' instead of or in addition to the Empire State Building because it is a lot less hassle as it has recently reopened and doesn't have a huge number of people visiting yet. You can go there when you visit the Rockefeller Center ice rink.|||Def see "The Producers" on Broadway, it's hilarious.
If you can afford it, the Waldorf is wonderful, and their suites are unbelievable.
See Rockefeller Center...I don't know if the tree will be up yet when you go, but you could ice skate either way.
The MOMA is a must see, you won't forget it.
Of course you'll want to see Time Square, the Statue of Liberty, and you HAVE to go to the top of the Empire State Building at night...beautiful.
And if you can afford it, eat at La Bernadine. Unforgettable (but expect to pay between $500-$700 for two).|||I have a friend in Santa Rosa and when he visited NYC I took him to Greenwich Village. He was awed.

I鈥檓 going to New York in February with my college, we鈥檙e staying for four days and I really want to have some sort of structure so I can experience as much of the city, minimise extra costs and, of course, pick up some amazing bargains. I鈥檓 looking for as much advice, links, tips as possible from packing and eating out to sample sales and the best New York bargains. What tourist attractions would you recommend? I鈥檇 love to hear from NY locals or people who have partaken on the same sort of trip as me. Really great restaurant suggestions?...also we LOVE shopping so any tips on that would be greatly appreciated!! (sample sales???) Thanks!!|||Daily Candy's website gives you good fashion info- including sample sales, etc. 7th, 8th and 9th avenues between 32nd and 38th is probably the best area to find good shopping- Also good is the area below Delancey on the lower east side for bargains. Yes, go to 5th ave and see all the high end shops for fun too, but the bargains are on the side streets.

New York is full of great restaurants. Just be prepared to spend some money if you go for something more well known. There are less expensive places too but they don't have the big names. You have to be willing to chance it. Still, I have rarely had a bad meal in NY.
If you like Latin food with a twist, my favorite restaurant is Rayuela (on Allen btw Rivington & Stanton).
Les Halles is great for laid back bistro food and not too pricy.
Casa Mono has great tapas and is one of the many Mario Batali owned places in the city- you can't go wrong with any of them.
    Thalassa is good Greek/mediterranean food
Amalia is good but expensive and the bar D'Or is fun too. Just go in to take a look at the place. The decor is amazing.
Le Souk is fun- eat dinner there and then stay for drinks and dancing to middle eastern music.
For an authentic and cheap dim sum weekend brunch in Chinatown, Jing Fong is great.
Pop Burger is great for middle of the night mini burgers and fries
Another middle of the night favorite is Mamoun's Felafel, in the village, which is a great area with lots of fun bars and restaurants. The W 4th St. subway stop is kind of the epicenter.
You can also check out what's left of little Italy on Mulberry St.
You can go to South Street Seaport and do some sight seeing and then cross the Brooklyn Bridge to go to Grimaldi's (literally right by the bridge) for pizza, then go next door for ice cream.

For clubs, check out David Jaffee's suggestions. If you sign up and get on his list (it's free), you get free or discounted admission as well as drink deals at some of the best places in the city. I know his site looks a little homemade, but he is for real- I have gone out with girlfriends using his list several times and never had a problem and I have met him at one of his parties and he is a gracious host.|||Herald Square is a great area to go shopping.
Since it is February, it will still be cold in the city.
Very tall building like the Empire State building helps to block out some of the sun and since we are near the coast, when the breeze blows through, it can be chilly.

Times Square is NOT the place to go shopping. BIG tourist rip-offs.

If you have a BIG budget and plan to get a lot of things, carry an empty travel bag on wheels so you can tote them around easier while walking.

Speaking of walking, don't forget to wear comfortable shoes.|||My friend, if you're looking for some discounted items, may I recommend the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, located in Central Valley, NY. There mall is located about an hour from Manhattan, but I hear it is the best place to find closeout item at a budget.

There are two ways to get there.

Option 1 - you can take a Gray Line New York motor coach directly to the mall. They depart from the Port Authority Bus Terminal several times. Full information on obtaining ticket are found at the link below.

Option 2 - You can take NJ Transit from Penn Station to Harriman where a shuttle bus will take you from the train station to the mall.

In regard to restaurants in New York City, well, that depends on you price range and you taste. This city has millions of restaurants and there is a very helpful link below that will help you out. You can choose by either location, price range or cuisie.

I hope this information is very helpful.

    Good luck

your planning to stay in manhatten probably, but just to warn you, if your staying overnight, hotels or extremely expensive. food in manhatten is also very expensive.
You can go watch a broadway show which is always a great experience.
You can go to time square during the night which looks incredible.
Chinatown has a great assortment of chinese food. Personally, i like joe shanghai which is a very famous dumpling place.
Walking along soho is also nice. However, stores there are very expensive but very unique.
5th avenue is the best to find brand name stores. And there are also department stores such as century 21 which sells brand names for less.
Long Island also has many brand name stores. They are in manhasset.

I bought a Monique lhuillier dress at a sample sale and it's been in the closet for the last 5 months... I took it out last night to check it and the bottom of the dress is suddenly grey and dirty. I had it stored in the plastic wedding bag that they gave me and I realize now I should have had it washed the day I brought it home.
Will I beable to get these stains out or is the dress ruined!!!!|||Wedding Dress Cleaning
Wedding dress manufacturer´s recommend that wedding dresses be dry cleaned. You may be able to clean it yourself, but you would likely lose some of the lustre. It´s worth the extra money to have the dress professionally cleaned and have wonderful memories for years to come. Also, the cost of cleaning is much cheaper than replacing a ruined dress. Check at local bridal shops in your area to see if they can recommend a cleaner who specializes in bridal gowns. However, if you are willing to take a chance you can gently wash your dress in Woolite in the bathtub then let it air dry. Stuff it with acid-free tissue paper and store it in a 100% cotton garment bag or wrapped in 100% cotton sheets that have been rinsed with distilled water. If you choose to store it in an acid-free cardboard box, you'll need to change the box every three to five years since cardboard is absorbent and even acid-free boxes can re-acidify over time. Store it in a cool, dry place (so no hot attics or damp basements).Good Luck!!! =)|||That's great to hear!!! Thank you! =)

To get there by the ferry, you need to purchase round-trip ferry tickets at Castle Clinton National Monument in Lower Manhattan. Ferries from New York operate on a loop, stopping first at Liberty Island and then at Ellis Island before returning to Battery Park, New York.

Directions to get the ferry dock:
    http://www.nps.gov/stli/planyourvisit/pu…

Go visit the Empire State Building, one of the many landmarks of our city. It is located at 350 5th Avenue. To get there by MTA subway, take the 1, 2, or 3 (Seventh Avenue Lines), A, C or E (Eighth Avenue Subway) to 34th Street/Penn Station. Or take the B, D, F, N, Q, R or Path to 34th Street/Avenue of the Americas.

Go to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, located at 234 West 42nd Street, between 7th and 8th. To get there by subway, take the 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R, W, or S to 42nd Street, Times Square, the A, C, or E to 42nd Street, which will empty out at 8th Avenue, or the B, D, F, or V to 42nd Street, which will empty out at 6th Avenue. To get there by bus, take the M6, M7, M10, M16, M20, M27, or M104 to Times Square. This is standard $2.25 fare. For express buses to Madame Tussauds, which are $5.50, from Staten Island, take the X1, X6, X7, X9, X17J, X22, X30, or X31 to the Staten Island Ferry, and take the 1 train from there to 42nd Street. From Queens, take the X51, QM1, QM2, QM2A, QM3, QM4, QM10, QM12, QM15, QM16, QM17, QM18, QM22, or QM24. From the Bronx, take the BxM2.

Go to the New York Hall of Science in Queens. To get there, take the 7 train to 111th street station, and walk three blocks south. There are many ways to get to the 7 train. The easiest is by taking the A, C, E, N, Q, R, 1, 2 or 3 to 42nd Street, Times Square, or the 4, 5 or 6 to 42nd Street, Grand Central Terminal. Or, you can take the E, G or M to 45 Road – Court House Square, and transfer to the 7 there. You WILL need to use your MetroCard to transfer. Or, take the E, F, R or M to 74th Street, Broadway, and transfer there.

Go walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, which is, if I'm correct, which I might not be, is the oldest structure in the city. If not the oldest structure, the oldest bridge. To get there, and walk across it, take the 4, 5, or 6 to the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall stop. Another option would be to take the J, M, or Z to Chambers Street.

Go visit Coney Island, the home of the world famous Cyclone roller coaster. The amusement park is open in the summer, unless there is heavy rain. In the summer of 2009, there were hurricane warnings, so the park was closed, but luck is usually on your side when you go to Coney Island in the summer, as New York City summers are hot and muggy. To get there by train, take the D, Q, N or F train to Stillwell Avenue, which is the last stop. At Coney Island, there is also a nice beach to hang out, and a long boardwalk with some really awesome boardwalk food, like corn dogs and onion rings and french fries and milkshakes.

Go visit the South Beach-Franklin Delano Roosevelt Boardwalk in Midland Beach, right off the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. It is two-and-a-half miles long, and has some long, beautiful stretches of beach. In addition, it’s very easy to get to. To get to South Ferry station in Manhattan, take the 1 train to the last stop, or take the 4 or 5 to Bowling Green and walk. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge, and it takes about fifteen minutes to get from Manhattan to Staten Island. From the Staten Island Ferry Terminal take Bus S51 to Father Capodanno Boulevard and Sand Lane. Or, if you have a car, take the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to the Verrazano-Narrows, and follow the signs to Father Capodanno Boulevard, which will take you right to the beach and boardwalk.

Go for a ride on the Circle Line. There are numerous different cruises – one is the Full Island Cruise, which takes you around Manhattan on a three-hour cruise. The Semi-Circle Cruise sets sail on a two-hour cruise down the Hudson offering a stunning panoramic of the famed New York skyline and a close-up view of Lady Liberty. The Liberty Cruise turns 75-minutes into a quick and inspirational way to see New York’s highlights from the water. There is also a Harbor Lights Evening Cruise, which allows you to view the hotspots of New York City from the water at night. Then, there is The Beast. It’s a boat that travels at forty-five miles per hour down the river to the Statue of Liberty. Both cruises are fun and informational, and are a great way to kill some time if you don’t have anything to do.

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to safely stretch the dress?|||You probably can't stretch it without the risk of tearing the fabric or pulling out the stitching. I am specifically looking for a place that rents designer gowns. I don't want to buy on eBay, go to trunk shows, sample sales, seamstresses, etc...|||Look in the phone book under bridal salons and call them.

One of the main reasons why most brides do not rent their dresses is that they require alterations and they are not a one size fits all piece of clothing.
