I bought a really nice down vest at a sample sale recently but it is a size too big. The length is fine but it fits very wide. Would a tailor be able to bring the jacket in a bit? Or is this impossible?|||I do alterations and I don't touch down filled clothing. I make some down pieces for myself and my husband and the structure of down garments is complicated: there are inner baffles, the seams are sealed against outer air leaking in and down feathers leaking out and the entire garment is like an envelope designed to keep warmth in and cold out. Any break ion that envelope will alter and defeat the baffle system of keeping the down in place and it will destroy the envelope of warmth. Do look for someone who specializes in altering down filled clothing, not all tailors do it, nor do all dry cleaners. You will need to find someone who understand the unique challenges presented by down. And if they say there's nothing different about down it's easy to adjust then don't be surprised in three months when all the down has shifted to the bottom and leaks from the seams.|||Yes, Just make sure he or she understands, because once cutting into it too much you can't fix it and will be left with a coat 2 sizes smaller
